Description:The Admiralty chose two 3, lb conjoined mines of a high explosive nature to be attached to the sides of the boat via a bolt. In December and January six of the "" class began to arrive, identical externally but with a completely reworked interior. The targeted dock, however, was not destroyed. Six X-Craft were used, but only 2 successfully laid charges under the German battleship Tirpitz ; the rest were lost, scuttled or returned to base. These were comprised of one main type- the Ko-hyoteki Class Submarine. It is speculated that X-5 was sunk by Tirpitz as she approached while on the surface. However, it was designed in and only used in the last months of the war.
